Its not just cake !

This month will mark five years since the blog first went live. Five whole years. For someone as fickle minded as me , that s just short of an eternity to commit to something!

The blog has been a very fulfilling hobby for most of this time . I am not sure of how good a blogger I am ! At times there have been 5 posts in a week and at times there has been one post in 5 months. Some of my posts are super long and some just stick to the recipe. No consistency at all! No apologies either . Because a whole lot has happened in the last five years of life ,other than the blog ! I post when i feel like it (sometimes i feel like it but dont have the time ), I am shockingly bad at social media shares , I still havent learnt the technical terms or figured out how to make money off it !

But I have tried my best to stay true to the blog. And lasted 5 years ! So yay !

Emotional outburst alert! So look away if you dont like sentimental mush . About baked goods, no less.

I started this blog because I love to bake and love to share what I bake. This blog naturally became an extension of that. While the sharing was virtual, I didnt expect the connections I made via the blog to become so real! So much so that at times I am overwhelmed by the responses I get- the messages, mails , feedback , the requests, the shared experiences .

Grateful for every bit of it ! Thank you – for visiting (sometimes again and again) , for writing in , for trying those recipes , for sharing the pictures , for telling me what you loved , for not hiding what didnt work out well , and especially for letting me in on your life moments and celebrations!

Thats the best part of Flours and Frostings for me ! When you guys write in and share pictures of how these recipes went from words and measurements on my blog to small (sometimes not so small ) pleasures and joys in your life. A little girl’s smiling face as she bites into a cookie. Siblings spending their sunday morning making buns from scratch. Cozy dinners with chocolate cakes. Commercial hampers with teacakes . A teenager’s first tryst in the kitchen with some brownies. Candid clicks from potluck and office parties.

And the many many birthdays. From first birthdays to sweet sixteen to even an 90th birthday cake . I absolutely love the shares from celebration cakes – the thought and work that goes into it , the stress that it should come out fine , the work-in-progress queries , the attempts to get insta – worthy final clicks , the pride to actually achieve a homemade birthday (or anniversary ) cake , and finally the pure joy of slicing and savoring . I know its just cake , and its just recipes . But I have been given a sneak peek into so so many joyous occasions of people because of these cakes and recipes , it is ….. it is something that cannot be described in words. Not even by Mrs Know-it-all self professed wordsmith me !

So ya… its not just cake. Its so much more. Atleast for me .

And for this reason . And the fact that I loooove making these . And because a blog called Flours and Frostings simply has to be about some such cakes ! I felt the best way to ring in the blog’s 5th anniversary is to have a quick peek at all the best celebration worthy cakes we have had over the years !

Or maybe it has been used. I dont remember exactly. Its been 5 years !
